Dance in Action

Dance in Action.

Performance

Inspired by the childhood concept of parallel play, evening of contemporary dance that places seemingly unrelated worlds side by side. Featuring repertory works alongside new creations, the program moves between playful satire and quiet reflection. Humor meets grief, athleticism meets stillness, and everyday encounters give way to moments of profound reflection, inviting audiences to discover the threads that bind seemingly separate experiences.

Community

Located in Mni Sota Makoce since 2019, eMartin Dance uses the universal language of dance to activate community discourse through our work. Led by founder and Artistic Director Erika Martin, we explore human experience and identity politics with innovative choreography that encourages audiences to engage social constructs in a new way. Alongside our creative process, community programs have been an integral part of our company from its inception.

Education

In addition to their role as Artistic Director, Erika Martin continues to be an active dance educator and freelance artist in the Twin Cities community.

They are available for K-12 residencies, private dance lessons, corporate and community workshops. They specialize in Contemporary/Modern Dance, Improvisation, Composition, American Ballroom, and Latin Social dance techniques.

Examples do more than decorate an explanation: they show how an idea behaves under specific conditions, making abstract rules easier to understand and apply. In education, the strongest examples are carefully chosen to reveal both the method and the reasoning behind it, rather than simply displaying a correct result. A short test built around a realistic example can measure whether learners understand the underlying principle, because it requires them to transfer that principle to a fresh situation. The same approach works in technical writing, where a compact code sample, worked calculation, or comparison table can expose assumptions that broad statements leave hidden. Variety also matters; pairing a typical case with a boundary case helps readers distinguish a reliable pattern from an accidental detail. When examples are accurate, relevant, and explained in context, they become practical tools for learning, evaluation, and clearer decision-making.
